A few miles ago, a good-hearted driver who had stopped on Hunter Mill Rd to allow bikers on the W&OD trail to cross the street was rear ended by a fuel truck that was following too closely. Car was banged up a bit, but everyone seemed to be okay and the lead biker stayed to give his name as a witness.
While I imagine the driver will think twice about stopping for bikers again, still it was good etiquette by him as well as the cyclist, and a good reminder of how everything can change in an instant.
Born in Baltimore and raised in Cincinnati, I have lived on both coasts and driven back and forth across the country a number of times. I now have the "midlife opportunity" to do so on two wheels.
